Following a 4-1 victory against the Phillies on Sunday, which avoided a home opener sweep, the Rockies have additional positive news: Ryan Feltner is cleared to pitch today.
Feltner demonstrated strong form in his March 31 outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, pitching three scoreless innings with four strikeouts, one walk, and a single hit. However, his appearance was cut short when a 106.3 mph line drive struck him in the right hip.

This incident brought back unwelcome memories of 2023, when a similar line drive caused a skull fracture for Feltner. Fortunately, this recent injury was far less severe.
Though the impact was painful and caused Feltner’s hip to stiffen, preventing the 29-year-old from returning for the fourth inning, he is not expected to miss any time. He is slated to start on the mound today as the Rockies (3-6) commence a three-game series against the Astros (6-4).
The Astros recently concluded a high-scoring 2-1 series loss to the A’s, despite outscoring Oakland 25-23.
Right-hander Feltner (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to face Houston’s RHP Cody Bolton (0-0, 3.00 ERA). Astros ace Hunter Brown (1-0, 0.84 ERA) was initially set to start but was placed on the 15-day IL on Sunday due to a shoulder strain. Bolton has made one appearance this season, on March 31 against Boston, where he yielded a solo home run, three hits, one walk, and recorded five strikeouts. In that 9-2 victory over the Red Sox, Bolton earned the save after relieving Brown, who had delivered a quality start (giving up one run on one hit, with two walks and eight strikeouts) before his injury.

The Astros have dominated the Rockies over the past three seasons, holding an 11-3 record against Colorado and outscoring them 75-43 since 2023. This includes a two-game sweep in Mexico City in 2024, where Houston beat Colorado 20-4. Houston also claimed a previous series 4-2.
