Millie Bobby Brown Exits Olympics Movie ‘Perfect’ At Netflix

EXCLUSIVE: The Netflix sports drama Perfect is no longer proceeding at the streaming service after its lead, Millie Bobby Brown, departed the production. Sources indicate that Brown’s exit stemmed from creative disagreements with the producers.

Brown had been cast to portray Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug in the movie, which was slated to commence production this summer but has now been cancelled.

Both Netflix and representatives for Brown declined to comment regarding her departure.

Deadline initially reported last autumn that Brown was attached to star as the renowned Olympian, with Gia Coppola directing and Ronnie Sandahl penning the screenplay. Coppola subsequently left the project earlier this year and was succeeded by Cate Shortland. The film was intended to chronicle the story of Strug, a member of the 1996 USA women’s gymnastics team, famously known as “the Magnificent Seven,” who was instrumental in securing the team gold by executing a vault on a severely injured ankle.

The memorable photograph of her perfectly executing her vault before her ankle gave way, followed by her coach Bela Karolyi carrying her off the mat, stands as one of the most iconic moments in Olympic annals.

Netflix continues its strong working relationship with Millie, anticipating Enola Holmes 3, expected to debut sometime this year. Additionally, the studio has several films in development with Brown set to star, including Just Picture It and Nineteen Steps (the latter an adaptation of Brown’s debut novel).

Netflix and Brown recently concluded the exceptionally popular final season of Stranger Things, which aired its series finale in December.
