Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach recently indicated he anticipates numerous trades occurring in the first round of the upcoming draft. However, the Commanders might not be among the teams making such moves.
Holding the No. 7 overall pick, Washington’s GM Adam Peters addressed the potential for a trade involving their position during his press conference on Thursday. Peters expressed his belief that several defensive players available could “significantly benefit us” and that he expects to make a selection rather than engaging in a trade in either direction.
“I would say more likely than not that would happen,” Peters commented, as reported on the team’s official website. “You never know. It’ll depend on who’s on the board.”
While trading down could help accumulate more draft capital, adding to their current six picks, the allure of securing a top-tier player with an early selection seems too strong for Peters to bypass, especially given the upside of a difficult season.
