Steelers’ Cameron Heyward has message for Aaron Rodgers: ‘Just return, baby!’

Though no strict deadline exists, Steelers owner Art Rooney II stated on March 31 at the Annual League Meeting that he expects Rodgers’ decision before the upcoming draft, now just five days away.

Heyward, however, did not view that specific event as a definitive date for the Steelers to learn about Rodgers’ potential return.

“I don’t know,” he responded when asked when he thought there’d be an answer. “But I think everyone is fully committed to him. This season, we were genuinely impressed by his performance, especially after his time with the Jets; he brought a refreshing approach to his work. He was responsible, held teammates accountable, demonstrated a true passion for the sport, and relentlessly studied. I’ve rarely encountered someone with such an in-depth understanding of football.”

Should Rodgers opt for a 22nd NFL season, spending his 43rd year with the Steelers, the team’s composition will still see significant changes. Mike McCarthy, Rodgers’ former Packers coach, has taken over as head coach following Mike Tomlin’s resignation. Pittsburgh acquired Michael Pittman via trade to bolster the passing game alongside DK Metcalf, and the signing of Rico Dowdle to partner with Jaylen Warren aims to strengthen a running offense that was notably weak last season.

Time is running out, yet preparations are underway to facilitate a smoother potential second year for Rodgers in Pittsburgh.

Regarding Rodgers’ method for reaching a conclusion, Heyward lightheartedly speculated on the quarterback’s process, referencing some of his past off-field activities.

“He could be on a darkness retreat,” Heyward remarked, considering Rodgers’ potential whereabouts. “He might be filming the second season of Enigma. Or perhaps he’s preparing for Jeopardy. My guy is capable of many different things, but hopefully, he’ll be ready for the season.”
