One more day of heat, cold front on the way

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Expect the warmth to persist through Saturday before a cold front ushers in cooler conditions for Sunday. Following the front, we anticipate a shift to more temperate weather.

Saturday: Remaining Warm

Saturday is forecast to be another pleasant yet hot day. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s throughout the metropolitan region, with certain areas in central Georgia possibly nearing 90 degrees. Skies will be predominantly sunny, with scattered clouds forming later in the day.

Nevertheless, an elevated fire risk will persist on Saturday. The convergence of warm temperatures, minimal humidity, and parched plant life creates an environment conducive to rapid fire propagation should any fires ignite.

Sunday: Early Showers, Followed by Clearing Skies

Here’s the turning point. A cold front is projected to cross the region from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, potentially bringing light showers, primarily to the state’s far northwest. All rain activity should cease by late morning.

After the front clears, the majority of Sunday will be dry. Afternoon and evening outdoor plans can proceed with minimal weather worries. Sunday’s high temperatures are expected to settle in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Significant rainfall from this system is not anticipated, with amounts likely to be a tenth of an inch or less. Although much-needed moisture would be welcome, this precipitation will have little impact on the prevailing dry spell.

Outlook for the Week

High pressure returns on Monday, ensuring dry weather and typical temperatures to commence the work week. Throughout the week, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, reaching the mid to upper 80s again by Thursday.
