Winter Park native Svea Irving, aged 23, secured an eighth-place finish in the Women’s Freeski Halfpipe Olympic qualifiers on Feb. 19. This performance qualifies her for the finals, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m.
Competitors performed two runs, with only their best score counting towards their ranking. Irving posted a 77.75 on her initial run, improving to an 80.75 on her subsequent attempt.
The qualification rounds saw Great Britain, China, and Canada claim the top three positions. Zoe Atkin of Great Britain clinched first place with a 91.50. China’s Li Fangui earned second with a score of 90.00. Canada’s Cassie Sharpe secured third, recording an 88.25 on her first run; however, she crashed on her second run and required medical assistance off the halfpipe.
Winter Park Resort announced plans to host an official watch party for the Women’s Freeski Halfpipe finals. The event will take place at Sundog Restaurant on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 11:30 a.m., and will include a live Olympic broadcast and opportunities to win IKON Pass merchandise, as confirmed by resort representatives.
