ESPN broadcaster Mike Greenberg committed a significant blunder during the second day of the NFL Draft on Friday night.
The Cleveland Browns picked wide receiver Denzel Boston from Washington as the 39th overall selection. Boston shares a last name with former NFL wide receiver David Boston, who had a solid professional career playing for various teams.

Greenberg promptly assumed a familial relationship between the two players.
“You’ll recall his father, David Boston, a first-round selection from Ohio State in 1999,” Greenberg stated on ESPN, as he recited Denzel’s statistics from his time with the Huskies.
Regrettably for Greenberg, his assumption was incorrect.
He later had to apologize for his misstatement, labeling it a “mistake” in his preparatory research, particularly after Cleveland subsequently traded away the 74th pick.

“I was anticipating our return to air so I could extend an apology to Denzel Boston, whom I incorrectly identified earlier this evening as the son of former NFL wide receiver David Boston,” Greenberg expressed. “My research contained an error. It was a significant one, and I apologize to both of them. They do not share a familial connection.

“Therefore, I offer my apologies to both David and Denzel Boston, and I congratulate Denzel on being chosen in the second round by the Cleveland Browns tonight. This was my oversight, and I regret it.”
It was a considerable blunder. Nevertheless, if Denzel Boston’s career statistics even remotely approach those of David Boston, the Browns will undoubtedly be pleased.
David Boston earned both Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors once during his playing career. He accumulated 315 receptions for 4,699 yards and 25 touchdowns, despite playing for only six seasons.
