FRISCO, Texas — Veteran linebacker Logan Wilson, whom the Cowboys acquired at the trade deadline with the expectation of bolstering their linebacking corps, was released by the team on Friday.
This action frees up $6.5 million in salary cap resources for the Cowboys.
During his seven appearances, Wilson recorded 28 tackles and one forced fumble, yet he only managed to start a single game. Notwithstanding the ongoing difficulties at the linebacker position and the defense’s overall performance, Kenneth Murray Jr. retained the starting role ahead of Wilson. Notably, Wilson saw no playing time in the Christmas Day victory against the Washington Commanders, an oversight later attributed to a coaching error.
The Cowboys initially surrendered a 2026 seventh-round draft pick to the Cincinnati Bengals to acquire Wilson. Prior to his trade from Cincinnati, where he had been named a captain in 2025, Wilson was benched in favor of rookie Barrett Carter.
Across five seasons with the Bengals, Wilson accumulated 65 starts, securing 11 interceptions, and played an instrumental role in their journey to Super Bowl LVI, where they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Rams.
