Carrick: Man United can’t get ‘carried away’ with Champions League within reach

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick affirmed that his squad is maintaining a level-headed approach, despite their recent performance surge positioning them strongly for Champions League qualification. He also commended the pivotal role played by seasoned midfielder Casemiro.

Under Carrick’s leadership, United have only conceded points once, in their last fixture against West Ham on February 10, when a late goal from Benjamin Sesko secured a draw.

A victory over Everton on Monday night would enable United to overtake Chelsea and claim fourth position in the Premier League standings.

When questioned about the possibility of Champions League qualification, Carrick commented: “It’s encouraging that this question is being posed. It demonstrates that we’ve established a good starting position.”

“We’re not getting overly confident now, all of a sudden, after just a few weeks. We are aware of our current standing; we’re in a favorable position. While I would still prefer us to be higher, we are indeed in a strong spot.

“Our attitude is positive, and I believe it should be. There are many beneficial aspects to appreciate and anticipate. However, ultimately, it’s down to us to implement it. It’s achievable; the responsibility rests with us to seize this opportunity.”

Carrick’s spell at the helm has been productive for United, who were in sixth place when the 44-year-old took charge.

Among the standout performers during this period has been Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

The former Real Madrid star is scheduled to depart United at the season’s conclusion, but Carrick has expressed immense satisfaction with the 33-year-old’s contributions.

He stated: “Casemiro has been absolutely superb since I arrived, both on and off the pitch. Experience is incredibly valuable if utilized correctly.

“As a senior player here, there’s almost a duty to set the standard, to assist the younger players, to support the rest of the squad, and to share your experiences constructively.

“He’s been excellent in countless ways since I came in, and it’s been a pleasure to collaborate with him. I look forward to continuing our work together for the remaining months.”
