Beginning the year, HBO once again captivated audiences in the world of **_Game of Thrones_** with the debut of its new series, **_A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms_**. Following the journey of Sir Duncan the Tall (**Peter Claffey**) and his squire, Egg (**Dexter Sol Ansell**), this show offers a more intimate, lower-stakes adventure set in Westeros. It prioritizes the struggles and impact of a humble hedge knight in a challenging land, rather than the fantastical elements and political intrigue of the main series. Tonally, it also diverges significantly, adopting a more optimistic and humorous stance between dramatic moments, largely through its pure-hearted protagonist. This approach brings to mind another, more anachronistic medieval narrative featuring the revered late **Heath Ledger** in one of his frequently underestimated performances.
Released in 2001, **_A Knight’s Tale_** stars Ledger as William Thatcher, a low-born squire who, much like Dunk, has recently lost his master. To prove his worth and redefine his destiny, he assumes the identity of a noble knight to enter jousting tournaments. He quickly makes an impression in the medieval world, accumulating victories and earning the admiration of legendary figures such as Edward the Black Prince (**James Purefoy**). Above all, he becomes smitten with the noblewoman Jocelyn (**Shannyn Sossamon**) and endeavors to win her hand in marriage over his rival, Count Adhemar of Anjou (**Rufus Sewell**), all while solidifying his legacy as more than just a commoner. This film, blending comedy, romance, and action, is currently available to stream for free on Tubi, but its tenure there is limited.
A Knight’s Tale is one of many titles scheduled to leave the ad-supported streamer’s catalog after **March 31**, leaving just over two weeks to watch **Brian Helgeland**’s film before it departs. Helgeland, who later directed the baseball biopic **_42_** starring **Chadwick Boseman** and, more recently, **_Finestkind_** with **Jenna Ortega**, both wrote and helmed this medieval story. This project premiered just two years before his collaboration with director **Clint Eastwood** on the Oscar-winning **_Mystic River_**. His esteemed cast also included the talents of **Mark Addy**, **Paul Bettany**, **Laura Fraser**, and **Alan Tudyk**, with Tudyk later reuniting with the filmmaker for _42_.

'A Knight's Tale' Forges Its Own Enduring Legacy
</h2>Critics and audiences initially did not widely embrace Ledger’s romantic 14th-century adventure, yet it still achieved a commendable $117.5 million at the box office. The perception of A Knight’s Tale, however, has significantly improved in the intervening years. It currently holds a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and is now recognized as a **comforting and worthwhile action-comedy watch**, elevated by the Oscar winner’s performance and those of his co-stars. Although still overshadowed by Ledger’s iconic roles in **_Brokeback Mountain_** and **_The Dark Knight_**, it has secured a distinct place in his filmography as one of the movies that helped establish him as the icon he became.
A Knight’s Tale is set to leave Tubi at the close of the month. Stay updated here at Collider for further news on the biggest titles arriving and departing streaming services throughout the month.
