MONACO — The highly anticipated “Sincaraz” rivalry will be reignited Sunday in Monaco as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner battle for the Monte-Carlo Masters title and the coveted world No. 1 ranking.
Should Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam winner, defeat the reigning Monte-Carlo champion and seven-time major victor Alcaraz, he would ascend to the top ranking.
Sinner secured his spot in the Monte-Carlo final for the first time by overpowering Alexander Zverev with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 win, extending his perfect record against him this season. Meanwhile, Alcaraz advanced past local favorite Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6-4, sealing his victory with an exquisite drop shot.
This will be the ninth final contested between Alcaraz and Sinner, with Alcaraz currently holding a 10-6 advantage in their overall head-to-head. Both tennis stars are aiming to clinch their 27th career trophy.
Sinner’s impressive season includes victories at Indian Wells and Miami, making him just the fourth male player to reach the final of the season’s inaugural three Masters tournaments, a feat previously achieved by legends like Roger Federer (2006), Rafael Nadal (2011), and Novak Djokovic (2015).
Among Alcaraz’s two titles this year is his triumph at the Australian Open, where he overcame Djokovic to become the youngest male player to complete a career Grand Slam across all four major tennis championships.
