The England women’s national football team has honored the memory of former youth player Amy Carr, who passed away at 35 years old.
Carr, a former goalkeeper who represented England at Under-17 and Under-19 levels, had recently received a second diagnosis of a brain tumour.
Her initial diagnosis came in 2015, and in 2024, she successfully ran the Dublin Marathon, raising over £2,000 for charity.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former England youth player Amy Carr at the age of 35,” stated the Lionesses on their X account.
“Amy, who was diagnosed with a second brain tumour in 2024, dedicated her efforts to funding vital research into brain tumours that could benefit others. She continues to be an inspiration to us all.”
Originally from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, Carr played for prominent clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Reading before securing a football scholarship in the United States.
At the time of her first diagnosis, she was a professional footballer for IL Sandviken in Norway, later transitioning to a coaching role in Milton Keynes.
Chelsea also shared on X: “We are heartbroken to learn of the death of former Chelsea goalkeeper, Amy Carr. Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to Amy’s friends and family during this difficult time.”
