Anthony Kim makes impressive debut for his new LIV team after replacing Patrick Reed

Anthony Kim’s resurgence continues to gain momentum.

After two seasons as a LIV Golf wild card, Kim has joined a team for the first time. The 40-year-old is already proving to be a valuable asset.

Kim carded an impressive 67 on Thursday during the LIV Adelaide event, marking his debut with the 4Aces. His score matched team captain Dustin Johnson’s best for the squad, propelling the 4Aces to the Day 1 lead in the team standings.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome AK to the team,” Johnson remarked before the opening round, following the news of Kim’s inclusion. “He’s definitely heading in a positive direction. It naturally takes time to regain form after such a long break from the sport. But having played with him extensively, I can tell the talent is still there. He’s been putting in significant effort, and I anticipate he’ll be an excellent addition.”

Kim was initially demoted from LIV at the close of last season, but secured his return by finishing third in the LIV Promotions event, which serves as LIV’s qualifying school. He joined the 4Aces after Patrick Reed departed LIV to primarily compete on the DP World Tour this year, aiming for a PGA Tour comeback next season.

Prior to his 2024 entry into LIV, Kim had been absent from professional golf for 12 years due to a combination of injuries and personal challenges.

“I believe my expectations were as unrealistic today as they were two years ago,” Kim commented after Thursday’s opening round. “But now I’m actually capable of executing some quality shots.”

Kim currently shares third place, trailing co-leaders Bryson DeChambeau and Marc Leishman by one stroke.

“I’ve been working hard, and it’s rewarding to see rounds like today where, despite the potential for an even lower score, it was solid on a difficult day,” Kim added. “So I see many opportunities ahead of me, and if I continue to work, I have no doubt I can be in contention on Sundays.”
