Bayern Munich secured a comfortable 5-0 victory over FC St. Pauli, a match where their dominance was evident. Notably, Jamal Musiala made a rare appearance in the starting lineup, having recently completed a prolonged and challenging recovery period from both a fracture and a subsequent muscle tear.
Musiala formed an excellent partnership with Nicolas Jackson, demonstrating remarkable synergy on the field. Their collaboration directly led to a goal scored by Jackson, with an assist from the German international. Furthermore, Musiala himself initiated Bayern’s scoring with a goal in the 9th minute. One might hope that concerns about his re-injury are now alleviated… but the situation is perhaps more complex.
Previously, Oliver Kahn, a legendary figure for both Bayern and Germany and former front office member, had publicly advised Musiala to forgo the upcoming World Cup, citing his past injury history. Musiala, however, responded by asserting his strong desire to represent his country in June.
Subsequently, when quizzed on the matter, manager Vincent Kompany offered a lighthearted, sarcastic remark regarding Kahn’s perspective on football.
“I saw Oli Kahn in training, and I can say that he would go to the World Cup even with a broken hand and broken foot,” he said, laughing, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. This statement is likely a nod to Kompany’s history at Hamburger SV, dating back to 2006.
Ultimately, with Musiala’s clear intention to participate in the World Cup, the entire discussion proved to be largely inconsequential.
