HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – City authorities today held a news conference, issuing a public alert about an impending storm anticipated to strike the state later this week. Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced that the city’s Emergency Operations Center would become active on Wednesday.
The ground remains saturated from the two previous Kona low storms, and dam levels are still elevated. The city plans to dispatch first responders and other personnel to areas identified as susceptible to flooding. Blangiardi stated that emergency sirens would be activated if conditions turn hazardous.
The city has already initiated efforts to clear streams and waterways to diminish the risk of flooding. Crews will also closely monitor water levels as heavy rainfall is expected to begin on Wednesday.
Blangiardi strongly advised residents to prepare immediately, should evacuations become necessary. He also reminded the public to register for safety notifications via the HNL ALERT app.
