‘Bridgerton’ Sets Francesca and Michaela as Season 5 Couple at Netflix

Netflix revealed on Tuesday that Francesca, portrayed by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza, will headline the fifth season of “Bridgerton.”

“Bridgerton” showrunner Jess Brownell praised Dodd and Baduza to Tudum, highlighting their “beautiful friendship” and mutual support. Brownell further commended them as “incredibly talented and special performers,” noting their ability to convey significant emotion through expressions alone.

Dodd explained that Michaela, as John’s cousin, shares a unique understanding with Francesca, deepening their bond. Baduza playfully added, describing their connection as being “like magnets, they’re just drawn to each other.”

Filming for the new season has commenced outside London, subsequent to the Season 4 finale’s release on February 26.

Francesca marks the fifth Bridgerton sibling to take the lead in a season of the Shondaland series. Previous central pairings include Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), and Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

Dodd expressed her hopes for Francesca, stating that after spending so much time with the character, she wishes for her happiness. Given Francesca’s current “devastating position,” Dodd eagerly anticipates her finding deserving love and overcoming past misfortunes. She looks forward to Francesca “experiencing feeling loved [again] … and feeling enough within herself as well.”

More to come…
