Venkatesham articulated: “We maintain confidence in our current squad, however, an injection of superior quality, greater experience, and enhanced leadership is essential to consistently compete at the highest echelons. Achieving this demands a more proactive stance on recruitment, coupled with a wage structure that underpins our ambitions.”
He also hinted at impending player sales, adding: “Savvy player trading is equally about discerning the optimal time to sell and being resolute in offloading players who do not feature in our long-term vision. This practice is vital for maximising asset value and fulfilling our financial fair play responsibilities. Despite widespread belief, we are not exempt from these rules and must diligently manage our squad building strategies in accordance with them.”
Venkatesham is currently working alongside sporting director Johan Lange and Tottenham’s ownership, the Lewis family, to identify a new permanent head coach. Simultaneously, the club has accelerated its search for at least one new sporting director, having reportedly conducted background checks on Dougie Freedman, Paul Winstanley, and Tiago Pinto.
Spurs may opt to appoint two sporting directors to forge a revitalised football leadership unit, operating alongside Rafi Moersen, the director of football operations. Whether Lange, who has been the subject of fan discontent, will be part of this new arrangement remains uncertain.
