CRJ700 diverts after radome apparently holed during Washington take-off

U.S. aviation authorities have disclosed that an MHIRJ CRJ700 was diverted to Washington Dulles after an object seemingly penetrated its radome during its departure from Washington National.

The aircraft, operated by PSA Airlines on behalf of American Airlines, was originally headed for Birmingham, Alabama.

Its takeoff from National’s runway 15 occurred approximately at 23:30 on March 9th.

In an initial notification, the US FAA reported that the jet “impacted an object on take-off” and subsequently rerouted to Dulles.

“A post-flight examination revealed a puncture in the radome,” the agency added, identifying the airframe as N517AE.

The extent of the radome’s damage and the precise nature of the object involved in the occurrence have not been released, though the aircraft seemingly recommenced service the day after.
