Gwen Stefani is encountering mixed reactions, both criticism and commendation, after discussing her faith publicly.

The renowned pop star is promoting a 40-day Lenten challenge via the Hallow prayer and meditation application, which has led to claims that she’s embracing a “MAGA makeover.”

“Hey everyone, I just got my ashes, and I’m ready for Lent. This year, I’ll be doing Hallow’s 40-day Lent Prayer Challenge. It’s going to be incredible. Check it out. God bless,” Stefani states in the widely disseminated social media advertisement.

On Ash Wednesday, the 55-year-old vocalist shared a separate video on Instagram, conveying her enthusiasm for Lent and encouraging her 17.7 million followers to participate in Hallow’s 40-day prayer challenge.

Stefani’s forthright embrace of her faith and her collaboration with Hallow have not been free of debate.

Stefani’s devoted fanbase seems to be split on social media. While some offer their support, others are more disparaging, alleging she has forsaken her previous “cool” persona and fully embraced religious conservatism through her association with the app. This app has drawn criticism due to its anti-abortion stance and connections to conservative personalities, such as investor Vice President JD Vance.

A detractor commented on X, saying, “I can’t fathom how she transitioned from being the epitome of cool to this MAGA religious extremist. She should be ashamed.”

Another expressed regret, stating, “Gwen Stefani’s embrace of MAGA is incredibly disheartening.”

“She’s no longer a hollaback girl… she’s had the MAGA makeover…” one comment quipped, referencing one of her popular tracks.

Another user succinctly posted, “Ugh, canceled.”

Supporters have quickly rallied to Stefani’s defense, highlighting what they perceive as hypocrisy from those condemning her religious beliefs.

“If religiosity is now synonymous with MAGA, perhaps we should begin criticizing all your beloved public figures who also express faith,” one supporter argued.

Another follower retorted against the “MAGA” categorization, stating, “It’s a great injustice to label individuals who simply wish to remain uninvolved in current political discourse. Gwen embodies millions who don’t conform to these categories. We ought to exercise caution.”
