Hall Co. deputies to kick off boating patrols on May 1

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is set to launch its summer boating patrols on Friday, May 1st, introducing a new vessel to its fleet.

According to HCSO, they acquired a 29-foot cabin rigid inflatable boat last year, which will now be deployed for the upcoming boating season. The purchase of this boat was funded by $280,000 from asset forfeiture funds, which are monies confiscated from local criminal operations.

Capt. Michael Mount of HCSO’s Uniform Patrol Division stated, “Given the increasing visitor traffic on Lanier, we recognized a few years ago the necessity for a boat equipped with advanced navigation and communication systems to enhance our lake patrols. This new vessel not only boasts superior technology but also features a climate-controlled cabin, enabling our deputies to operate effectively in various weather conditions.”

Deputies assigned to this unit collaborate with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Their responsibilities include assisting with lake patrols, maintaining security at lakefront parks, and enforcing boating regulations, among other duties. The Marine Patrol Unit currently comprises two HCSO deputies.

HCSO confirmed that the unit’s previous vessel, a 2016 Sea Chaser 24 HFC Center Console Patrol Boat, will serve as a backup for lake patrols. During peak periods like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, both boats will be actively patrolling the water.

Lake patrols are scheduled to continue until October.
