Edmonton demonstrated resilience under pressure in Game 5, securing a definitive 4-1 win at Rogers Place. Leon Draisaitl netted two goals, Evan Bouchard contributed three assists, and Connor Ingram made 29 saves, delivering one of the Oilers’ most complete performances this series. Zach Hyman and Vasily Podkolzin also found the back of the net, as the Oilers effectively disrupted Anaheim’s transition play and displayed the urgency expected from an experienced team facing elimination.

Anaheim maintains control of the series, having won three consecutive games earlier in the matchup, including a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory in Game 4. The Ducks’ youthful core has emerged as a significant narrative of the opening round, with players like Cutter Gauthier, Mason McTavish, and Lukas Dostal bringing Anaheim within one win of their first playoff series triumph since 2017. Now, the Ducks have a second opportunity to seal the series in front of what is anticipated to be an energized home crowd.
The central question on Thursday revolves around whether Connor McDavid and Draisaitl can power Edmonton through another elimination game, or if Anaheim’s speed, confidence, and home-ice advantage will enable them to complete the upset. While momentum shifted in the Oilers’ favor in Game 5, the pressure is now squarely on both teams in what promises to be one of the most captivating Game 6s of the first round.
