Emerging cricketer Ayush Mhatre recently shared details of an unforgettable encounter with his role model, Rohit Sharma, calling it a “dream day” that profoundly impacted him.
Mhatre’s profound respect for Rohit is widely recognized. He previously penned a heartfelt message after being replaced by the former India captain in a Ranji Trophy fixture. Before embarking on his England tour last year, Mhatre ultimately had the opportunity to meet his hero, a moment he treasures greatly.
On the Chennai Super Kings’ YouTube channel, Mhatre recounted how a straightforward text message paved the way for a one-on-one discussion with Rohit. This chance arose because Rohit had previously encouraged Mhatre to contact him for advice after Mhatre’s initial IPL match against the Mumbai Indians.
Prior to his departure for England, Mhatre acted on the offer and messaged Rohit, asking for a meeting.
Mhatre recounted that he was about to go on the England tour and wanted to speak with Rohit a bit. He messaged him, expressing his desire to meet. Rohit then called him directly, asking what he wanted to say. Mhatre explained that he was going on the tour and wished to meet. Rohit inquired about his residence, to which Mhatre replied, Virar. Rohit then asked if he would travel from Virar to meet him, and Mhatre eagerly affirmed that he would go anywhere just to meet him.
Although Rohit offered the alternative of a video call, Mhatre remained resolute in his wish for a face-to-face meeting. Consequently, the following day, he journeyed to Rohit’s home, where they engaged in a discussion that lasted almost two hours.
He added that Rohit had suggested they could talk on video, but Mhatre insisted he wanted to meet and speak in person. Subsequently, Rohit provided his home address, and Mhatre visited him the following day. Their conversation lasted for at least two hours. Mhatre expressed how incredible it was that his idol dedicated so much time to him, calling it a “dream day” and a significant experience. He noted that the two hours flew by, and he thoroughly enjoyed their discussion.
Following this encounter, Mhatre has seen considerable success, notably captaining India to the Under-19 World Cup championship earlier this year. Nevertheless, his IPL 2026 season commenced less favorably, as he was dismissed for a golden duck in his match against the Rajasthan Royals.

Concurrently, Rohit has launched his season impressively, achieving a explosive 78 runs from just 38 deliveries, leading the Mumbai Indians to triumph over the Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-scoring pursuit of 221.
Nevertheless, for Mhatre, the encounter with his idol stands as a pivotal personal achievement – an experience that perpetually fuels his cricketing aspirations.
