The Boston Celtics thoroughly defeated the Dallas Mavericks 120-100 on Friday night. While Jayson Tatum’s season debut drew much attention, Jaylen Brown, consistent with his performances this season, once again led Boston’s charge with another highly efficient scoring display.
In Tatum’s absence, Brown has compiled an MVP-level season for the C’s, boasting averages of 28.8 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 5.1 APG, and 48.1 FG%. He recently declared himself the premier two-way player in the NBA, but following the victory over the Mavs, he paused to modify that assertion. He offered some distinctive praise to the San Antonio Spurs’ superstar center, Victor Wembanyama.
“That kid Wemby is a problem, a huge problem,” Brown stated during his most recent Twitch stream. “When I say I’m the best two-way player in the league, it’s not counting Wemby. Wemby doesn’t count. He’s not even human. I’m the best human player.”
Standing at 7’4, Wembanyama is undeniably one of the most formidable players in the NBA. Beyond his towering height, he possesses the agility to occasionally function as a point forward. Consequently, Wembanyama can perform virtually every task desired from a basketball player, while his immense stature allows him to dominate the paint on both ends of the court.
Simply put, Brown cannot execute the kind of astonishing blocks that Wembanyama regularly achieves. However, when considering players who aren’t built like Wembanyama, Brown firmly believes he remains the top talent in the two-way player category. Brown will seek to further validate his claim when the Celtics clash with the Cleveland Cavaliers this Sunday afternoon.
