LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — On Tuesday, an attorney for Lamar Odom entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of the former NBA player in relation to a Las Vegas DUI case.
Odom was not present for the arraignment hearing at the Las Vegas Justice Court, as his legal counsel, Kevin Coburn, opted to waive the reading of the criminal complaint.
Coburn requested a bench trial, and the subsequent hearing has been scheduled for July 7.
Nevada State Police took Odom into custody in January after he was observed speeding on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. An arrest report stated that a trooper noted Odom’s SUV reached speeds of 110 miles per hour at one point, outpacing the officer.
Upon Odom pulling over to the side of the freeway, the trooper alleged detecting “the overwhelming odor of Marijuana emanating from the vehicle.”
According to the arrest report, Odom initially denied consuming any cannabis or alcohol, but he later admitted to possibly having used marijuana hours earlier.
Prosecutors have filed a criminal complaint charging him with misdemeanor counts including DUI, driving 41 mph or more over the speed limit, and failing to maintain his travel lane.
Odom, once a UNLV recruit, played in the NBA from 1999 to 2013 for teams including the Clippers, Heat, Lakers, and Mavericks. He clinched two championships during his tenure with the Lakers. He also gained additional prominence through his marriage to reality TV personality Khloé Kardashian.
In 2015, Odom was discovered unconscious at a brothel in Nye County. He was hospitalized in Las Vegas in a comatose state before being transferred to Los Angeles. He and Kardashian finalized their divorce in 2016.
