EDGEFIELD, La.- Early Monday morning, Louisiana experienced a series of four earthquakes, with magnitudes between 3.1 and 4.0. These tremors occurred rapidly, within a 10-minute span from 4:33 to 4:41 a.m. CT.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the initial quake registered at 3.1 magnitude and hit at 4:33 a.m., approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Edgefield, at a depth of 3.1 miles.

Just a minute later, a second magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck around 1.9 miles north-northeast of Edgefield, maintaining the identical depth.

Subsequently, at approximately 4:40 a.m., a magnitude 3.9 earthquake occurred nearly at the previous location, about 1.9 miles northeast of Edgefield, also at a depth of 3.1 miles.

The final tremor to shake the state registered a magnitude of 4.0 at around 4:41 a.m., impacting the same general area, roughly 5 miles west-northwest of the village.

To date, the USGS reports that tremors were felt by residents spanning from Coushatta in the south to Minden in the north.

This recent activity follows closely on the heels of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake four days prior, which also occurred in Red River Parish and set a new record as Louisiana’s most powerful seismic event.

Notably, two of Monday’s four seismic events now rank among the top four strongest earthquakes ever recorded in Louisiana.

Currently, there is no information regarding any reported damage, injuries, or fatalities.

Additional details were not immediately released.
