Is Gunther set to compete at WrestleMania 42, or will he miss out?
This is the pressing question for the WWE Universe, as The Ring General has been noticeably absent from the past three installments of Monday Night Raw. With the yearly ‘Showcase of the Immortals’ rapidly approaching, a key figure in the company seems to be without an announced adversary.
Known as the ‘Career Killer’ following his triumphs over Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles in their respective retirement bouts since last July, the former World Heavyweight Champion’s recent absence has caused some apprehension. However, WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select indicates that Gunther is still anticipated to play a prominent part in WWE’s grandest event.
Gunther’s Presence at WrestleMania 42 Is Anticipated
According to WrestleVotes, internal WWE sources confirm that Gunther is still slated for a significant appearance at WrestleMania, despite his recent disappearances. A particular source highlighted that Gunther’s absence from WrestleMania would be counterproductive for all parties. Many had speculated a match between Gunther and Rey Mysterio, though Mysterio is currently sidelined with a rib injury.
Since his main roster debut, Gunther has maintained an unbroken streak of WrestleMania appearances, consistently defending major titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025. However, WrestleVotes offered no further specifics regarding his potential role or a possible opponent if Mysterio remains unable to compete.
Presently, six bouts are confirmed for WrestleMania 42, scheduled to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, across Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19. While the two main events haven’t been officially revealed, it is widely anticipated that WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton will headline the first night, with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Roman Reigns closing the second.
Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi are scheduled for a monumental clash of titans, while the women’s division is poised for what could be an unprecedented weekend.
The confirmed women’s matches include Jade Cargill facing Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship, Stephanie Vaquer battling Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship, and AJ Lee going against Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Additionally, reports suggest three more matches are in development, including championship defenses for Women’s United States Champion Giulia and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend.
We will keep you informed with all pertinent updates regarding the WrestleMania 42 card as further details emerge.
