Cleveland Guardians rookie Chase DeLauter delivered a phenomenal MLB regular-season debut.
During the Guardians’ 6-4 victory against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday at T-Mobile Park, DeLauter remarkably hit two home runs in his inaugural regular-season game, a feat only accomplished by five other players in history.
Despite Thursday being his regular-season debut, the highly-touted prospect had already experienced major league play, having debuted in an American League Wild Card Series last autumn.
“That’s a moment I’ll always remember,” DeLauter said of his playoff debut last year. He added, “And believe me, I won’t be forgetting this one either.”

During the first inning, the 24-year-old launched Mariners’ starter Logan Gilbert’s 85-mph slider 358 feet beyond the right-field wall, marking his inaugural Major League home run and putting the Guardians ahead 1-0.
This achievement made him the fifth player in the Cleveland franchise’s 126-year history to hit a home run in their very first regular-season at-bat. The last Guardians player to accomplish this was Jhonkensy Noel on June 26, 2024.
His second impressive home run of the game occurred in the ninth inning, a 422-foot shot off Mariners reliever Cooper Criswell’s cutter to right-center field, which provided crucial insurance, extending the Guardians’ lead to 6-4.
Reliever Erik Sabrowski, as quoted by The Athletic, remarked about DeLauter, “He must be from another world.”

DeLauter concluded the evening with a 3-for-5 performance, matching seasoned slugger Rhys Hoskins for the most hits on the team. Hoskins expressed notable admiration for DeLauter’s composure, especially considering it was only his third major league appearance.
“Perhaps he’s unaware, perhaps a lack of knowledge is a blessing,” Hoskins mused. He continued, “But to maintain such calm during a home opener, especially with their enthusiastic crowd energized by last year’s team performance, it’s just incredibly impressive.”
Over his three seasons within the organization, DeLauter has appeared in only 138 games due to numerous injuries.

“Honestly, I’m just ecstatic to be with the team,” DeLauter expressed. “Ecstatic to be healthy and playing. I’m genuinely thrilled to be back on the field for important games.”
DeLauter aims to maintain his impressive beginning as the Guardians (1-0) face the Mariners (0-1) once more on Friday at 9:45 p.m. ET.
