STORRS, Conn. – The premier UConn women’s basketball team, boasting a perfect 28-0 overall record and a 17-0 standing in the BIG EAST, is set to host Providence (14-14, 7-10) this Sunday at noon for their Senior Day celebration. The highly anticipated game, taking place at Gampel Pavilion, will be broadcast on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network via Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).
Following the game, a special postgame ceremony will honor seniors Ice Brady, Caroline Ducharme, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson, and Serah Williams. Fans can stream this tribute on the UConn women’s basketball X and Facebook pages, the UConn Huskies YouTube channel, and UConn+.
Since the arrival of Ducharme and Fudd in 2021, the Huskies have achieved an impressive 159-21 overall record. During their tenure spanning five seasons, UConn has secured the 2025 National Championship, made appearances in two NCAA Championship games and three Final Fours, and claimed nine conference championships.
With their decisive victory over Villanova last Wednesday, the Huskies officially clinched the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season championship. This triumph guarantees UConn the coveted No. 1 seed for the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament next month.
Including all BIG EAST Tournament matchups, the Huskies are currently riding an incredible 64-game winning streak within the league.
In their recent 83-69 win against Villanova, UConn overcame a halftime deficit thanks to outstanding performances. Azzi Fudd led the scoring with 25 points, while sophomore Sarah Strong contributed significantly with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals. Junior Ashlynn Shade also added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists against the Wildcats. The Huskies, trailing 40-37 at the break, dominated the third quarter with a 26-12 run to secure the victory.
Historically, UConn holds a 51-21 advantage over Providence and has triumphed in their last 38 encounters. The most recent matchup, held on December 31 in Providence, saw the Huskies secure a dominant 90-53 win. In that game, Fudd notched 19 points, six assists, and four steals, while Strong contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.
Providence enters the game on a hot streak, having won their last four games, including a recent 66-60 victory over DePaul. This season, Sabou Gueye has been a standout player for the Friars, averaging 15.3 points per game. Erin Batth is currently in her third season as the head coach for Providence.
