Power restored to customers hit by outage in North San Diego County – NBC 7 San Diego

A widespread power outage impacted thousands of North County residents for just over an hour on Thursday evening, spanning areas from Carlsbad south to Encinitas and east to Escondido, as reported by San Diego Gas & Electricity’s website.

Commencing at 7:41 p.m., the outages left tens of thousands of North County residents in the dark until approximately 8:56 p.m. At its peak, over 100,000 customers were without power.

SDG&E has not yet determined the cause of the power failure.

The coastal regions impacted included Carlsbad, Encinitas, La Costa, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain. Additionally, portions of Rancho Santa Fe and San Elijo Lagoon experienced the outage.

Further inland, communities such as San Pasqual, Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Del Dios, and Lake Hodges also lost electricity.

The widespread power loss extended northward into southern Orange County, disrupting service for customers in Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and the San Juan Capistrano area.

After power was restored, Anthony Wagner, SDG&E’s Media Relations Manager, issued the following statement:

“Electricity has been completely restored to all customers impacted by tonight’s extensive outage across various communities in North San Diego County and Orange County. We recognize the inconvenience such disruptions cause and are actively investigating the root cause. The well-being of our customers, staff, and communities is always our foremost concern.”
