Report: Vikings are open to trading Jonathan Greenard

An additional option concerning the edge rusher position becomes available as the new league year approaches.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Vikings are amenable to trading Jonathan Greenard.

Greenard, aged 28, has spent his last two seasons with the Vikings. However, his 2025 campaign was hampered by injury, limiting him to just 12 games played and 10 starts. His persistent shoulder problem necessitated surgical correction.

He finished the 2025 season with 3.0 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 12 quarterback hits.

Greenard is slated to have a $22.15 million cap figure in 2026, which is a primary reason the Vikings are considering moving him. Schefter points out that although the Vikings would ideally like to retain Greenard, the edge rusher’s substantial cap number poses a significant hurdle.

If the organization were to release Greenard, Minnesota would realize a cap savings of $12.25 million, while incurring $9.9 million in dead money.

Originally a third-round selection in the 2020 draft, Greenard has accumulated 38.0 sacks, 60 tackles for loss, and 75 quarterback hits over his 77 career appearances.
