In a thrilling Monday night matchup, Adam Gaudette netted the game-winning goal with just 21 seconds remaining, while Alexander Wennberg and Macklin Celebrini each contributed two goals and an assist, propelling the San Jose Sharks to a 5-4 victory over St. Louis and bringing an end to the Blues’ three-game winning streak.
During a fast break, Gaudette unleashed a quick wrist shot from the vicinity of the left faceoff circle, which managed to elude goalie Joel Hofer by slipping through his legs.
Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov recorded 22 saves for San Jose (34-31-7), elevating their total to 75 points, placing them in a tie with Seattle and two points shy of Nashville for the Western Conference’s final wild card spot. Los Angeles currently holds 76 points, with St. Louis (31-31-11) trailing with 73.
Goals for the Blues were registered by Theo Lindstein, Pavel Buchnevich, Philip Broberg, and Cam Fowler, while Jake Neighbours provided two assists. Hofer concluded the game with 24 saves.
Fowler tied the game at 4-all with a power-play goal at the 7:07 mark of the period, as his wrist shot from the right side beat Askarov on the glove side, finding its way just inside the left post.
The 19-year-old Celebrini, who was the top pick in the 2024 draft, now boasts 38 goals and 63 assists for the season, making him only the sixth teenager in NHL history to achieve at least 100 points in a single season.
Blues: Head to Los Angeles to face the Kings on Wednesday.
