US F-35 damaged by suspected Iranian fire makes emergency landing, sources say

An F-35 fighter jet from the United States executed an emergency landing at a US air base in the Middle East after reportedly being struck by Iranian fire, according to two individuals with knowledge of the situation.

Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, stated that the advanced fifth-generation stealth aircraft was “conducting a combat mission over Iran” when it was compelled to make an urgent landing. Hawkins confirmed that the jet landed safely, and the incident is currently under investigation.

“The aircraft landed without incident, and the pilot’s condition is stable,” Hawkins added, emphasizing, “This matter is being investigated.”

This incident would mark the first time Iran has successfully hit an American aircraft in the conflict that commenced in late February. Both the United States and Israel are deploying F-35s in this ongoing engagement; each aircraft carries a cost exceeding $100 million.

The emergency landing occurs as high-ranking US officials continue to claim extensive success in their military operations against Iran. On Thursday morning, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth asserted that the US is “achieving a decisive victory” and that Iran’s air defense systems have been “rendered inoperative.”

This report is ongoing and will receive further updates.
