This weekend, a Vermont brewery is holding a community gathering to honor Mad River Valley resident and alpine ski racer, Paula Moltzan, who is currently competing in the Winter Olympics. Kelly Putnam from Lawson’s Finest Liquids remarked about Moltzan, “We love to celebrate her wins. We love to have a party and there’s been a lot to celebrate lately.” Moltzan has already earned a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics, as part of the alpine team combined event alongside her partner Jackie Wiles. Her supporters in the Mad River Valley are set to convene early Sunday at Lawson’s taproom to view her next race in the giant slalom. Lawson’s previously launched a limited-edition IPA, Paula’s World, in honor of Moltzan last year. The brewery is re-releasing this distinctive brew for the upcoming Feb. 15 Paula Moltzan Winter Games Pancake Breakfast, an event where local fire departments will serve pancakes to raise funds. NBC5 News interviewed Moltzan in November 2025 at the Lawson’s Finest Liquids taproom before her departure for World Cup races in Europe. Last year, Moltzan stated, “The whole community here that works at Lawson’s is super supportive of me. When the idea came together to create Paula’s World last season, I was like, ‘Wait, this is actually happening? Like, they actually like me as an athlete?'” During the interview last autumn, the University of Vermont alumna expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support she received from Vermonters during her offseason and the World Cup season leading up to the Olympics. The Paula Moltzan Winter Games Pancake Breakfast will commence at 7 a.m. on Feb. 15, preceding Moltzan’s 7:30 race. Lawson’s is legally permitted to begin beer sales at 8 a.m., at which time they will unveil a very limited release of Paula’s World IPA, available in cans and on draft. Moltzan, commenting in November on her fans potentially watching her Olympic performance, remarked, “That would be pretty cool to be drinking a Paula’s World while I’m screaming down the hill. It might be a bit early for a beer because of the six-hour time change to Europe, but I’ll respect it if someone’s drinking one of those while I’m racing.” This President’s Day weekend, Paula’s World will also be offered on draft at all three bars at Burke Mountain Resort, including the View Pub within the Burke Mountain Hotel. Similar to Lawson’s, this limited-edition beer is anticipated to sell out rapidly there. Following her participation in the giant slalom, Moltzan’s subsequent Olympic event is the slalom. These races are slated for Feb. 18, as per the women’s alpine skiing timetable published on the Olympics website.
