The adventure continues at Prime Video.
The Amazon-owned streaming service has commissioned a second season of Young Sherlock. The series, which features Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a youthful Sherlock Holmes and is executive produced by Guy Ritchie, made its debut as a full-season release on March 4.
Ritchie, who directed the initial two episodes of the season, is also slated to helm the season two premiere. He collaborated with creator Matthew Parkhill to develop the show.
“Young Sherlock possesses an uncommon allure — millions of fans globally are not merely observing a detective narrative; they are becoming captivated by the formative years of an iconic figure,” stated Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have mastered the art of portraying Sherlock’s youth in a way that feels innovative, perilous, and profoundly captivating, while also presenting an intriguing portrayal of James Moriarty that hints at future developments. We eagerly anticipate their direction for him in season two.”
Prime Video reports that 45 million individuals worldwide watched at least a few minutes of Young Sherlock during its first four weeks of availability, placing it among the top 10 original series seasons on the platform. The majority of these viewers (63 percent) were from outside the United States, with significant viewership in the U.K., India, and Germany. Domestically, in the U.S., the series accumulated 678 million minutes of viewing in its debut week, according to Nielsen data, though it subsequently dropped out of the top 10 original streaming productions.
Young Sherlock also features Dónal Finn portraying Moriarty, Sherlock’s eventual adversary, alongside Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth.
Matthew Parkhill functions as the series’ showrunner and also executive produces alongside Ritchie, Marc Resteghini, Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, Colin Wilson, and Harriet Creelman. Steve Thompson and James Dormer hold co-executive producer roles. The physical production for Young Sherlock is spearheaded by Motive Pictures.
