Dwight Yoakam returns to the stage after more than two decades

It’s surprising to consider that Dwight Yoakam has performed at RodeoHouston only twice, in 1993 and 2004. His distinctive neo-traditional style appears to be ideally suited for the venue’s rotating stage.

Yoakam debuted with the EP “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” in 1986. This launch secured him a major-label contract and the first of three consecutive chart-topping country albums. His distinctive sound was instrumental in bringing honky-tonk and the Bakersfield sound back into mainstream country music and has influenced numerous artists across generations, including Sturgill Simpson and Kacey Musgraves.

Yoakam also successfully transitioned into acting, taking on memorable roles such as an abusive boyfriend in “Sling Blade,” a psychotic burglar in “Panic Room,” and a husband on the verge of divorce in “Wedding Crashers.”

His most recent album, “Brighter Days,” was released in 2024 and features a duet with Post Malone.
