Award-winning artist Tems shared how her journey in music significantly altered her life, guiding her from extreme self-reliance to a more open, vulnerable state.
During a recent discussion with Doose Of Society, Tems explained that prior to her professional music career, her strong independent streak often led her to distance herself from others.
Nevertheless, she stated that creating music has shown her how to become more welcoming and open to receiving love.
Tems elaborated, stating, “My life has been transformed by being an artist. Many people recognize me now. It spurred my personal growth, compelling me to let go of many self-limiting behaviors—among them were my intense self-reliance and my tendency to isolate others.”
She continued, “I’ve since learned to wholeheartedly accept love, to be genuinely open, and to feel liberated in giving love and being vulnerable without any sense of awkwardness.”
Tems began her musical journey in 2018, releasing her first single ‘Mr Rebel’, though her major breakthrough arrived with Wizkid’s chart-topping track ‘Essence’ in 2020.
Since then, she has collaborated with international music giants such as Drake, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber, secured two Grammy Awards, and made history as the first Nigerian artist to exceed 40 million monthly streams on Spotify.
