On February 17, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili addressed the nation’s Parliament, detailing his government’s stance on foreign relations, national autonomy, and key domestic development objectives.

During his yearly speech, Kavelashvili asserted that Georgia was encountering coercion and intimidation from foreign entities. He alleged these external forces were operating via internal political figures, thereby exacerbating unrest within Georgia and across the broader region, as reported by Caliber.Az, citing Georgian media outlets.

Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, the president noted that Georgia had endured “immense pressure” since the war began. Nevertheless, he highlighted that the Georgian populace had shown solidarity, dedication to national concerns, and commitment to ingrained principles when confronted with difficulties.

He reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to a pragmatic and diverse foreign policy, designed to maintain peace and uphold the nation’s autonomy. He underscored that Tbilisi’s non-aggressive stance was crucial for Georgia itself and for stability in the region. Considering the present global climate, he suggested that proactive measures could establish Georgia as a central point for executing significant global initiatives.

Kavelashvili also voiced disapproval of what he characterized as meddling in Georgia’s domestic matters by European administrative bodies. He accused these structures of employing inconsistent criteria and not fully acknowledging Georgia’s sovereign status and self-governance.

Regarding internal governance, the president underscored that the state’s goal ought to be the development of an education system rooted in national identity and patriotism. This system, he stated, should cultivate an understanding of Georgia’s past and current circumstances, simultaneously preparing its citizens to tackle contemporary obstacles.
