The men’s Olympic ice hockey quarterfinals delivered intense drama on Wednesday evening.
Three of the four games went into overtime. In the end, the favored team emerged victorious in each of those extended matches.
This also determined the semifinal matchups for Friday: Canada vs. Finland and USA vs. Slovakia.
The Canada-Finland game is scheduled for Friday at 5:40 PM, followed by USA-Slovakia at 10:10 PM.
Canada’s powerful roster is considered the top favorite in the tournament. Despite this, they faced a tough challenge in their quarterfinal match against the Czech Republic, securing a 4–3 overtime win to advance.
Canada also lost its captain, Sidney Crosby, during the game. There were no immediate updates regarding the severity of his injury.
Even with Crosby sidelined, Canada still boasts world-class players such as Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Cale Makar.
Finland and Canada last met with largely similar rosters in the 4 Nations tournament last winter, where Canada secured a 5–3 victory.
