Mavericks vs Clippers Preview and Injury Update: These games used to mean something

The Dallas Mavericks (23-47) are set to host their second consecutive home game this Saturday night, facing off against the Los Angeles Clippers (34-36). Dallas enjoyed a two-day break following a recent home defeat to the Atlanta Hawks. Meanwhile, the Clippers have slipped below a .500 record after enduring a four-game losing streak, most recently falling to the New Orleans Pelicans. A resurgence is clearly needed for them.

The Mavericks’ injury report appears relatively clean. Brandon Williams is sidelined due to a concussion. Caleb Martin is listed as questionable with a heel contusion. Additionally, all two-way contract players are questionable and their participation will likely be determined closer to game time. Everyone else is expected to play, which I find noteworthy given the Mavericks’ current incentive structure.

The Los Angeles Clippers are generally healthy, though a significant question mark surrounds their top player. Kawhi Leonard is currently questionable with an ankle sprain. Benedict Mathurin is out with a toe injury.

My game prediction is straightforward: if Kawhi Leonard participates, the Clippers are expected to win; if he doesn’t, I anticipate Dallas will secure the victory. Leonard has been exceptional over the past 30-plus games, and Dallas fans are well aware of his impact when he hits his stride. For the Mavericks, I’ll be closely watching Cooper Flagg’s energy level in this game. I’d particularly enjoy seeing him attempt a three-pointer.
