NFL news: Jets catch heat from running back

New York Jets running back Breece Hall seemed to subtly criticize his team on Monday after reports emerged of the franchise securing multiple defensive players as free agency commenced.

Last week, the Jets applied the nonexclusive franchise tag to Hall, preventing him from entering restricted free agency. Hall retains the right to negotiate with other teams and sign an offer sheet, though the Jets maintain the right of first refusal.

As the free agency period kicked off, Hall observed his team finalizing agreements with various defensive players.

According to multiple reports, the Jets reportedly acquired Miami Dolphins defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is expected to sign a three-year, $40 million deal. New York also reportedly secured linebacker Demario Davis with a two-year, $22 million contract and defensive end Joseph Ossai on a three-year, $36 million agreement.

“Wow, we’ve certainly got a lot of funds flowing in Florham Park with all these contracts being signed,” Hall posted on X, accompanied by three crying-laughing emojis.

Hall and the team have until July 15 to finalize a long-term contract. Should they fail to agree on terms by that date, Hall will play the 2026 season under a $14.293 million cap hit.

Last season, Hall achieved 1,065 rushing yards and four touchdowns over 16 games. He also recorded 36 receptions for 350 yards and a touchdown for the Jets, who finished with a 3-14 record.
