Pima County sheriff believes Nancy Guthrie suspect could strike again

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos suspects Nancy Guthrie was a deliberate target, and he warns that the perpetrator is highly likely to attack again.

Guthrie, 84, vanished from her Tucson-area residence on January 31st and was reported missing the following day. Investigators surmise she was forcibly taken or kidnapped.

Speaking to NBC News, Nanos indicated that investigators have a theory about why Guthrie was targeted but refrained from disclosing specifics.

“We think we understand the motive behind this action, and we’re confident it was targeted, though we can’t be absolutely certain,” Nanos stated during the interview. He added, “It would be irresponsible to tell people, ‘Relax, you’re not a target.’ Do not assume you’re safe just because this occurred to the Guthrie family. Instead, remain vigilant.”

Nanos informed NBC News that he is deliberately keeping their hypothesis and other case specifics confidential to protect the ongoing investigation.
