Beneficial Rain Returns to South Florida
Good morning! It’s Friday, and we’re looking at a sunrise shortly after 7:30 AM. Today brings an onshore wind, blowing at 10 to 15 knots, prompting a Small Craft Advisory for our area waters that will remain in effect through the evening. Additionally, a High Rip Current Risk is anticipated today, extending through the weekend. If you plan to visit the beaches, please prioritize your safety by swimming only at lifeguarded locations, or consider avoiding the water altogether due to these hazardous rip current conditions. Currently, temperatures sit at 76 degrees in downtown West Palm, with winds from the northeast at approximately 10 miles per hour. A few clouds are present, contributing to temperatures that are warmer than average for this early hour. As we move through the day, there’s a good chance for scattered rain and thunderstorms. Our Impact Weather coverage will be active from mid-morning through the afternoon across South Florida and the Treasure Coast. This rainfall will help keep our daytime temperatures in the upper 70s, as the rain provides a cooling effect; without it, we would likely see numbers in the 80s later today. This morning, we’re seeing some isolated showers mainly offshore, with lighter precipitation noted from Indian River County down to Saint Lucie. A small shower is also developing near Tequesta and areas of northern Palm Beach County, extending into southern Martin County. For your Friday, expect widespread scattered rain and storms as an unstable boundary persists throughout the entire day. There’s even a possibility of lingering showers after sundown. Looking ahead to your weekend plans, scattered rain and storms are forecast for both Saturday and Sunday, again with Impact Weather in effect. This much-needed rain is highly beneficial, especially considering the drought conditions prevalent across the state. If you’re attending any of the spring training games today, please be aware that a few showers are expected in the vicinity. Otherwise, temperatures will drop rapidly through the 70s as evening approaches. The forecast calls for rain on Saturday, with several scattered showers and thunderstorms also predicted for Sunday, particularly through the mid-morning and late afternoon to early evening hours. We anticipate a stretch of rather wet weather over the next couple of days, which serves as a welcome trade-off.
