The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw is set to take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland. For this stage, Europe’s top 16 teams will be categorized into two distinct groups.
The seeded teams, comprising the top eight finishers from the qualifying stage, include Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Tottenham, Barcelona, Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon, and Manchester City.
In the unseeded group, which consists of teams that progressed via the play-offs, are PSG, Galatasaray, Real Madrid, Atalanta, Newcastle, Atletico Madrid, Bodo Glimt, and Leverkusen.
Based on the teams’ rankings from the qualification round, UEFA had previously outlined the potential matchups. Consequently, Real Madrid is slated to play against either Sporting Lisbon or Manchester City. A highly anticipated clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City is generating considerable excitement among supporters.
Earlier this season, these two clubs met during the ranking phase. In that encounter, Manchester City emerged victorious, beating Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabeu.
Over the past four seasons, Manchester City and Real Madrid have met in the Champions League knockout stages. Real Madrid has largely dominated these encounters, defeating Manchester City in the 2021/22, 2023/24, and 2024/25 campaigns, with their only elimination against City occurring in the 2022/23 season.
Fans are also eagerly anticipating other classic fixtures in the Round of 16, including potential showdowns like Barcelona versus PSG, Atletico Madrid against Liverpool, or Leverkusen facing Bayern Munich.
English football shows a strong presence in the Round of 16, boasting six clubs: Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Tottenham. It’s plausible that an all-English fixture could occur in this phase; for instance, Newcastle might be drawn against Chelsea, while Tottenham could potentially face Liverpool.
As per the confirmed schedule, the initial leg matches for the Champions League Round of 16 are slated for March 10-11, with the decisive return legs following a week later. The grand final of the tournament is set to be hosted in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30.
