DETROIT (FOX 2) – Following disruptive winds at the start of the weekend, Metro Detroit anticipates another round of blustery conditions to conclude it.
Southeast Michigan will be under a Wind Advisory, effective from 11 a.m. Sunday until midnight.
The National Weather Service forecasts winds between 20-30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 45-50 mph.
With over 12,000 DTE customers still without power Saturday evening, there’s a possibility that more residents could experience outages on Sunday.
Actions to take if you spot a downed power line
In an emergency situation, such as a fire or a power line resting on an unoccupied vehicle, your initial step should be to dial 911, followed by contacting the appropriate power utility. DTE Energy can be reached at 800-477-4747. Consumers Energy’s number is 800-477-5050.
For non-urgent scenarios, you can report the fallen line to DTE through their online portal here.
Maintain a minimum distance of 20 feet from the conductors. Refrain from making contact with power lines directly or indirectly with any object. Do not operate vehicles over fallen wires. Furthermore, avoid touching anything the wire is in contact with, including fences or standing water.
Ensure that both pets and children are kept a safe distance from these lines.
Should you be in your car when a wire lands on it, DTE advises remaining within the vehicle and contacting 911.
Nevertheless, if exiting the vehicle becomes essential, DTE recommends shedding loose garments and alighting without making contact with the car’s metallic structure. Leap clear with your feet together to prevent simultaneous contact with both the vehicle and the ground. Keep your feet together until you are a minimum of 20 feet from the car.
