Steve Kerr: No conversation of drop-dead date for shutting Steph Curry down for season

SAN FRANCISCO — On Thursday, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed that there have been no internal discussions regarding a definitive cut-off date to sideline star guard Steph Curry for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, a day after his time off was prolonged by at least ten more days.

Following Thursday’s practice, Kerr’s response was definitive: “No,” he stated, adding, “That topic has not been addressed.”

On Wednesday, the Warriors announced that Curry, who has been sidelined since January 30 due to a persistent runner’s knee injury, is showing “good progress” in his recovery. However, he is expected to be unavailable for at least another 10 days before his condition is reassessed. Curry, who celebrates his 38th birthday this Saturday, has already missed 15 games and is now anticipated to miss a minimum of six additional matchups.

On Thursday, Kerr expressed optimism about Curry’s effective rehabilitation sessions, though the exact timeline for his potential return to play this season, or even if he will return, remains uncertain. According to Kerr, Curry has exclusively engaged in individual on-court drills alongside Rick Celebrini, VP of player health and performance, and assistant coach Bruce Fraser, and has not yet joined team practices.

“He was on the court today, which is positive,” Kerr remarked.

Heading into Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 32-33 win-loss record, the Warriors have 17 regular-season games remaining and are presently positioned ninth in the Western Conference standings.

“The primary concern is, ‘Is he progressing favorably?'” Kerr stated. “And the response is affirmative. Speaking with Rick today, he was pleased with the work accomplished. We simply must maintain a gradual increase in activity to prevent any regressions. Therefore, we will proceed with caution, with Rick, of course, overseeing the process. He will return once he is ready.”

While the Warriors anticipate Curry’s comeback, they are currently playing without swingman Moses Moody. Moody has been absent for four consecutive games due to a sprained wrist, and Kerr indicated he would miss several more. Kerr expressed optimism that Moody might rejoin the team during their upcoming six-game road trip on the East Coast.

Center Kristaps Porzingis participated in Thursday’s practice and is expected to be available for Friday’s game against the Timberwolves. Kerr noted that it is yet to be determined whether Porzingis will feature in both legs of any of the Warriors’ three remaining back-to-back game scenarios.

“We will address that situation once it arises,” Kerr commented.
