Taron Egerton Says He’s Not ‘Right’ for James Bond Role

Taron Egerton is unlikely to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

Given his prominence as a young British actor, with major parts in films like “Rocketman” and the “Kingsman” franchise, Egerton has frequently been mentioned as a potential successor for the James Bond role.

However, during a recent red carpet interview with Variety AU/NZ, Egerton made it clear he doesn’t envision himself portraying the renowned spy.

“I don’t believe I’m suited for James Bond,” he stated. “I’ve never genuinely felt it was a role for me.”

Egerton elaborated: “I believe there are many excellent candidates for the part, and it is, without a doubt, a significant cinematic institution. I don’t intend to disparage it in any way. I simply feel that my career trajectory is less… on a grand or idealized scale.”

This isn’t the first instance Egerton has brushed off speculation about him playing Bond.

Back in a 2025 interview, he informed Collider that he didn’t consider himself suitable for Amazon’s forthcoming version of the legendary franchise.

When questioned about his interest in the role, Egerton responded: “No. I also don’t think I’m a good option. I believe I’m too chaotic for such a character.”

He further mentioned his great affection for the character, especially “Daniel Craig’s time in the role. However, I don’t think I’d excel at it, and there are so many talented, younger actors who would be perfect. It would likely be a misuse of my abilities.”

Egerton was present on the red carpet for Tropfest’s comeback to Sydney’s Centennial Park on Sunday, February 22nd.

This year’s Tropfest boasted a highly impressive jury, including Egerton, “Avatar” and “Titanic” director James Cameron (participating remotely), Australian director Danny Philippou, “Succession” actress Sarah Snook, renowned producer Bruna Papandrea, and pioneering First Nations director Dylan River, with Margot Robbie serving as President.

Lianne Mackessy of Sydney, NSW, took home the award for her film “Crescendo,” which the jury lauded as “utterly flawless.”
