Boston Logan International Airport anticipates a return to normal flight operations on Tuesday, February 24, after a significant nor’easter blanketed parts of Massachusetts with more than 20 inches of snow – though this remains contingent on evolving conditions.
According to FlightAware, nearly 1,000 flights at Logan Airport were either canceled or delayed on Monday, February 23. By 1 p.m. on the same day, the National Weather Service of Boston reported that the airport had accumulated 14.4 inches of snow.
Samantha Decker, assistant director of media relations for the Massachusetts Port Authority, stated, “While flights are anticipated to resume tomorrow, this will depend on prevailing conditions.” She also advised, “Travelers intending to come to the airport should confirm their flight status with their respective airlines beforehand.”

Nationwide, over 5,600 flights were grounded on Monday, according to FlightAware. The accumulation of snow led to widespread street closures, and the weather service warned that whiteout conditions created “potentially life-threatening” travel hazards.
For those whose travel plans were disrupted, acting quickly is crucial. Specialists advise utilizing your airline’s mobile app for rebooking rather than waiting in customer service queues, given that many airlines automatically offer no-fee change alternatives during significant weather incidents. Should direct options appear scarce, consider checking airports accessible by car or train, as availability may first emerge at these locations.
You might find that hotels are willing to waive same-day cancellation fees if you contact them directly and mention the storm, and rental car reservations are frequently modifiable via their apps. Furthermore, passengers are encouraged to examine their travel insurance policies and the benefits associated with premium credit cards, as these might provide coverage for meals or accommodation during prolonged delays.
Federal regulations mandate that airlines issue refunds if you opt not to travel following a cancellation, irrespective of your ticket class. Nevertheless, as weather events are beyond an airline’s control, supplementary compensation like meals or hotel stays is generally not obligatory.
